Noma also known as cancrum oris. The cause is unknown. Risk factors include a lack of proteins. Children under 12 are most likely to be affected, mainly in Africa, where more than 400,000 children are affected by noma.
Noma is an incurable disease. As a treatment, rinses with antiseptic solutions are offered. Only facial plastic surgery can correct the effects of noma.
