On September 1, 2004, a group of Chechen terrorists seized School No. 1 in Beslan, North Ossetia.

For almost 3 days, the terrorists held more than 1,100 hostages, mostly children.

The terrorists demanded the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya and the cessation of hostilities.

President Vladimir Putin refused to negotiate with the terrorists and on the third day an order was given to storm the school building.

In response, the terrorists set off explosive devices. The explosions killed 314 people, 186 of them were children.

783 people were injured of varying severity, all but one terrorist died.

The only surviving terrorist, Nurpasha Kulaev, was captured and subsequently sentenced by the court to life imprisonment.

Chechen terrorist Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility for this terrorist act.

In this video, footage of the chronicle after the storming of the school began. Children in a panic under fire run for cover, they are rescued by the military, the rescue service and volunteers.
