Ashura Bloodletting Rite

Ashura is a Muslim holiday among the Shiites, during which bloodletting and self-torture are performed.

The rite of bloodletting Ashura is held in honor of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, who was martyred in 680 as a result of a battle with the troops of Caliph Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala.
