A 60-year-old pensioner from the village of Verbaev, Volyn region of Ukraine, kept three slaves in the barn, who helped her with the housework.
The woman selected slaves from among the homeless in the markets and the bus station in Lutsk. She promised the homeless people jobs in the countryside and good wages.
When the victims agreed upon arrival, their passports were taken away and, threatened with physical harm, they were forced to work only for food. The men lived in the barn with the cattle.
The police stopped the illegal activities of the pensioner, now she faces from 5 to 12 years in prison for kidnapping and extortion.
