Never happened and now it happened again*

It is clear that not everyone likes the content of the DEADHOUSE site and sooner or later some asshole will send a complaint. Another question is how the hoster will react to this.

Some hosters ignore complaints and forward them to us, some change their hosting rules because of our project.

Our hoster blocked the server due to complaints. The fact that we had to leave this hoster became clear after the incident with an attempt to take away our domains. The way these guys behaved and the way they conducted their dialogues indicated that they did not need our account.

The server was blocked due to the total number of complaints. To put it mildly, it was incorrect on their part. The backups were not returned to us, nor was the money for the remaining period.

They blocked us after the 5th complaint. Moreover, three of these complaints were about spam, which I, of course, did not send, and they counted another complaint as two and blocked it.

They turned out to be not the most adequate dudes.

Everything was as usual with this hoster. At first everything was fine, then they started whining about how our site creates excessive load and we should upgrade to a higher tariff plan.

But there was another interesting incident.

I’ve been working with these guys, by the way, here they are, since 2021, even before the war. I was happy with the fact that this was a Ukrainian reseller. This means that even in 2021 they would not cooperate with Russian intelligence services, and since I am a citizen of Russia, this means that I am not accessible to foreign intelligence services.

One day my server stopped starting. I wrote to support and they started to figure it out. As a result, support said that I had run out of disk space. There really was little space, but not so much that the server wouldn’t start.

I deleted the log archives, the server started, but the sites still did not work. Then I started to figure it out myself. It turns out the server has run out of inodes. In a nutshell, inode is file quotas in Linux. In this case, the symptoms of the problem are exactly the same as in the case when the disk space runs out. I cleared the inode, fortunately it’s not difficult, but the sites still didn’t work.

As it turned out, the Nginx and Apache configuration files were corrupted. Someone added Cyrillic characters to them.

It is easy to compare that incorrect diagnosis of the problem and corrupted configuration files suggest a rather low qualification of the support service.

To my question why, and most importantly, why the hell did they get into the Nginx and Apache configuration files, I never received an answer.

Recovery

These dudes had a point system for complaints. Each complaint is worth 20 points. When an account reaches 100 points, the server is blocked.

After the incident with complaints about domains, I realized that I needed to change the hoster. I was just waiting for some nasty tricks from them, which happened, although a little earlier than I planned.

As you can see, the site materials were restored to December 2023, but other important backups from other projects were never returned to me.

In general, any site move is associated with certain difficulties. Something stops working, some glitches and artifacts appear.

Added to all this is the headache of setting up a server, a firewall, application compatibility errors, fine-tuning interpreters and other crap.

Considering that in addition to DEADHOUSE I have about 30 other sites of varying degrees of complexity, it becomes clear that restoration takes some time.
