After the Russian troops fired on the rear camp of PMC ‘Wagner’, Yevgeny Prigozhin called on his fighters to march on Moscow.
The truck convoy of the Wagner group has successfully crossed the Russian border and is heading towards Rostov.
According to Prigozhin, the order to shell the Wagner group was given by Valery Gerasimov, Chief of Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense, with the approval of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
The Wagner rear camp was fired upon first by MLRS, then by artillery, and the surviving fighters were finished off by helicopters.
Following this, Prigozhin mobilized his fighters, making a number of statements to the Russian military leadership.
In response to this, measures were taken in Moscow and Rostov to protect against Wagner. In these cities, there is a movement of military equipment and armed people.
The approaches to the center of Moscow are blocked. An attempt was also made to block the M-4 ‘Don’ Rostov-Moscow highway.
The police, the FSB and the Russian Guard have been mobilized. The ‘Fortress’ plan was announced and all employees came to their places of deployment despite the day off.

As a result, Prigozhin received huge political capital and, in my opinion, became the second most popular person in Russia.
These guys shot down 5 helicopters and 1 plane, they found gold bars and 4 billion rubles in cash in Prigozhin’s office, Prigozhin was charged under a serious criminal article and … they got away with it all!
Charges dropped, Wagner pardoned.
But the most surprising thing is the behavior of the authorities. Putin has fled, the government has fled, nothing is heard of Shoigu and Gerasimov.

I get what you’re saying about NATO, however, if NATO troops were to approach, I think a more serious approach would be taken. This is a foreign enemy and proper military actions would be undertaken. Perhaps even nukes. Wagner is still a friendly force, they’re Russians for crying out loud. It actually went over well, they made their point, left. No destruction, no bloodshed, no civilians injured or killed. That would be seriously risky for Russia as a whole.
Another thing about NATO: how sure are we they are ready for a fight as well? Again, we can drill military exercises, we have a lot of equipment on paper, etc, but push comes to shove, you have to fight a force with a modern airforce, nukes, and aren’t a bunch of 3rd world insurgents with technicals and AKs. Theoretically, we should do good. In practice, just look at previous wars and skirmishes. It’s not always ideal.

This is the KEY element of how religion regulates society.
It shows you how to structure your life according to God’s word, rather than leaving you to your own devices to experiment on how to structure a society.

A typical “moral” secular person probably won’t do either, but difference is, in a life and death situation, under pressure, the “morals” of the typical “good” person who doesn’t believe get temporarily suspended. The God fearing person would be on the fence about sacrifing himself so as to not commit something he believes to be a sin.
People would vary in degrees of spirituality, but the scale would be there. If you take God out of the equation, there is no scale to measure morality by. We’re just god damn animals. I fundamentally disagree with your assertions that religion affects morality. Religion only drives immoral behavior underground, leads immorals into the shadows and does not allow them to openly display their deviant behavior.

There couple a few reasons how this perception of last bastion came to be:
– as mentioned, the beating of gays, specifically by the police.
– the typical Russian’s political orientation leaning towards right-wing,
– being Christian Orthodox, which is more hardline and traditional than Catholicism,
– being Slavic; I’ll go into more detail below,
– being traditionally uncompromising, ever since Rurik, to the Soviets, now to borderline gangster Putin,
– always being at odds with the West, having the option to be independent as far resources go, etc,
– Soviet Union in general, Cold War (at odds with the West), first to Space (indicating power and independence)
– being the biggest country on the planet,
– Russia’s very own promotion with those same implications, such as showcasing the Putin taking the Epiphany plunge on Jan 19, etc.
There’s probably more that I’m missing, but this conveys the general idea.
As far as the Slavic bulletpoint goes: the reason it’s significant is, all Slavic nations lean right. from Russia to Bulgaria, most are Orthodox, some are Catholic, a few are Muslim Sunni too.
People are generally averse to Eastern Europe, as tourists lets say, due to fear of racism and what not. It’s not without reason. It’s of course bullshit but we are talking about people’s perceptions here, wrong or not.

We see here a diverse plethora of people, but many are leaning towards my juxtaposition rather than yours. Geography matters too, so if you live in medium – small sized city, the people will generally be less politically conscious, worse off economically, less uneducated, and thus, more likely to be “losers”, to put it bluntly, that steal trashcans and can be found face down in a canal blacked out drunk. The higher a person in the socio-economic ladder, the more likely he is to be a liberal and progressive, because he’s more likely to be exposed to such ideology and dogma. On top of that, conservativism and traditionalism is seen as “backward”, primitive, or as a thing of the past, whereas I would argue many facets are healthy and level-headed.

It actually doesn’t surprise me that you haven’t heard of the pan-Slavic sentiment. This is more of a desire by the smaller Slavic nations to unite to finally perhaps be part of a more powerful nation and empire. Russia is already quite accomplished in those regards and doesn’t really have the hunger for it. And yes, it would never work or if it did it, it would fall apart quickly, that’s why I said “wishful”. As you say. the Slavic people have been killing each for fuck knows how long. Well, homosexuals are mentally sick, and choosing to engage in same-sex intercourse is not normal nor healthy. Well, here’s another hard pill to swallow for many people: just being a blind obedient sheep isn’t virtuous / moral, by any means.
Many people are “religious” simply to fit in with the crowd, to not be an outlier. Rather than being a sovereign individual guided by his own reason.
The same people would also follow the dictates of their political leader or the leader of the nation, with minimal questioning. As I said, not everybody is the same level of moral. A highly moral person would object to orders that he knows to be immoral and would risk getting shot. Some would play along and not put their lives in danger, which is also very understandable. Life is a precious thing, and it’s only natural to not risk losing it over something that’s going to be of immediate concern to you. However, a God fearing person is motivated by heaven and hell primarily. He fears hell and thus he avoids sinning and doing any wrong to anyone and anything, even when he can get caught, because he knows God sees everything and will judge him for it. This as I said is critical.
The orthodox priests you speak of, I don’t know the details to cast a judgement on. However, I can list some possible options that might be true:
– they’re people who believe and think they’re doing the right thing because of misinterpretation of scriptures and what not. This type of person is very dangerous because he believes he can do no wrong, although he usually does exceptional wrong.

As for gays, calling them mentally ill is perhaps wrong.
Many people are repulsed by them due to their perception that gays are sort of challenging traditional norms and disrupting social cohesion. People with Down syndrome aren’t really a threat to anyone, in fact they evoke pity due to their disadvantaged nature.

You know what, you are probably right. People are people, no matter where they are. Culture plays a bit of a role, but ultimately it’s a crapshoot as to measuring and rank-ordering “morality” and “moral people” respectively.
We can only extrapolate from statistics, indicators that don’t tell you much. We would need indicators such as “How likely to report violent crime?”, “How likely to intervene in injustice?”, “how likely to risk life to save another?”, “how likely to argue out of principle even when there’s not much material gain in that situation?”, and so on. As far as lynching, let me clarify, because I did make a mistake in categorization. It’s not the method of carrying out the judgement process, it’s the severity of the punishment. The modern process is indeed the preferable one, however, the punishments are usually too tame to my liking. How many times have you seen killers get a couple of years, while someone who was involved in a physical altercation gets more? Or pedophiles, drug dealers, so on?

I thought it’s way less than this. But apparently it’s people over 55 for the most part. A 55 year old was around 30 when the Soviet Union disintigrated, being an adult with fully grown brain function to understand what’s happening and having lived for quite a while in that state.
